However, to have value the awards cannot just be given away to the usual suspects. Award winners need to deserve their accolades, which is why when deciding the recipients of the British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) we assemble a panel of judges, recognised for their expertise across the UK's engineering and electronics industries. Every year the BEEAs judges are blown away by the innovation, technical ability and imagination presented to them, and now is the time when you can impress them with your designs. The 2014 BEEAs are now open for entries. There is still plenty of time - final entries must be with us by the end of June. And for those of you concerned that they will never be able to compete with the big companies, with big design teams and big budgets, there is no need to worry. The judges are looking for the real engineering achievement, and that does not necessarily come from the best funded, shiniest engineering department. So if you think you have done something special it could be that the BEEAs will provide you with the recognition you deserve.
