Bright outlook for microcontroller market

Research from Fact.MR suggests that the market for microcontrollers will see average annual growth of 10% in the ten years to 2029, driven by automation in consumer electronics, automotive, military & defence, and industrial processes and a shift to smarter devices.

The research suggests that 16-bit MCUs will exhibit market dominance accounting for half of the total market, while 32-bit devices will record the highest growth with 15% CAGR during the forecast period.
Automotive applications are set to account for a third of the total market and will grow 2.5X by the end of the forecast period.

According to Fact.MR, “Manufacturers stand to gain sustainable growth opportunities by investing in innovative applications for various end-use industries such as infrastructure management, and consumer electronics.”

While the research was carried out before the coronavirus began to make itself felt, whatever the short to medium term problems for the industry - in the form of supply and demand issues - the long term health of the microcontroller industry looks to be sound.
