Court out

Hugo Boss is no doubt peering watchfully over its shoulder as Samsung Electronics makes its own bid to become the name most synonymous with suits.
Today, the South Korean electronics manufacturer celebrated the latest in a long run of patent infringement suits, by winning an lcd patent dispute against Sharp. Earlier this week, Samsung India announced its plan to file a revised petition challenging a customs law after a fresh consignment of its mobile phones was seized at Delhi airport.
A day earlier, an agreement was finally agreed between Samsung and On Semiconductor following an outstanding patent infringement of dram products. And prior to that, two separate infringement complaints were made against Samsung by Spansion. The list goes on. And on.
Although, in recent months Samsung has made more court appearances than Andrew Murray, this is just the tip of the iceberg. In particular, there has been a rapid increase in the number of WiMax related patent activity in the last couple of years.
While infringement cases can leave a nasty taste in the mouth, I prefer to look on the plus side. The increase in patents could be looked upon as a sign of the potent growth possibilities in the success of WiMax.
