Electronica attendance beats the estimates
During the run up to last week's electronica exhibition in Munich, there were some worries about attendance; visitors have been on the decline over the years, with the numbers dropping to 72,000 in 2010. Given the current economic conditions, it was expected that attendance would take another hit.
But it didn't. Officially, attendance matched 2010's level; unofficially, it looked busier, although the first day of the show seemed slower than normal.
The reason for the concern? Electronica is the world's largest electronics exhibition and what happens there is an industry barometer. The conclusion? Things are better than expected. And here's another interesting observation; discussions on the various stands focused much more on product road maps than normal. And that means companies are looking further ahead than they might do, planning to skip the next generation design and to bring an innovative product to market ahead of schedule.
