Is Elon Musk’s rhetoric undermining the future of Tesla?

How X, the social media platform, managed harmful content during the recent race riots in the UK could be considered in an ongoing European Commission investigation into how harmful content is handled.

That’s according to European Union officials who have issued charges against X, which is owned by Elon Musk, under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This act requires digital platforms to do more to tackle illegal content and any risks to public security.

While the UK is no longer a member of the EU how disinformation and calls for violence were spread on X during the disturbances, could have been seen by users in Europe which would be a breach of the DSA.

Musk seems to be increasingly at odds with the values of his customers, especially when it comes to Tesla, and there are growing concerns that his promotion of dubious claims on X, his retweeting of inflammatory and fake stories and his endorsement of Donald Trump in the upcoming US elections could be having an effect.

Even while his comments are unlikely to hit sales in the short term, new research does suggest that among US consumers at least, the number who say they trust or like Tesla, as a brand, and who say they would consider buying one, have fallen significantly.

“With great power, comes great responsibility,” may have been a line from Marvel’s ‘Spiderman’ films but I think it should also apply to individuals who have a powerful and influential platform in terms of social media.

Under the guise of free speech ‘X’ under Musk is fast turning into a platform for unsubstantiated and vile comments and an incubator of misogynistic and racist views.

Whatever happened to the ‘fun’ platform of just a few years ago?
