There is much to celebrate but there's still much to do.
New research has shown that just 4% of the founders of the UK’s fastest growing technology companies are women, accounting for just 11 out of 251 founders of the 'hottest' tech start-ups in the UK.
The research, by recruiters CodinGame, follows on from the government-backed Hampton-Alexander Review, published last month, which showed that more than a third (34%) of FTSE 350 board positions are now held by women – that represents a 50 per cent increase over the past five years.
That’s a dramatic shift, so why are there so few women at the top of the UK’s tech companies especially when that sector is booming and investors are clambering over each other to invest in these companies?
It's really troubling as we know that there are many talented women out there who have the skills, vision, drive and determination, so what’s going wrong?
The tech industry likes to position itself in a positive light when it comes to the issue of gender diversity, but as this research highlights, very little seems to be changing and that means we all miss out.
