Out with the old, in with the new

As we start off 2016, we appear to be picking up from where we left off in 2015 – the Chinese stock market is slumping, the Brazilian economy is heading for recession, talk of a possible Brexit from the EU is growing and the UK manufacturing sector continues to be in the doldrums.

What of the next twelve months? Well, if this year is anything like 2015, then it will be a year of ups and downs for technology companies. We should expect more security scares, the rise and fall of a range of technologies – talk is all around the rise of robotics, artificial intelligence and augmented reality – as well as more acquisitions and mergers.

One bright spot is the billions of dollars now being pledged on technology based projects. Could 2016 be the year in which crowdfunding generates more cash than traditional VC routes?

Whatever happens, it will be an interesting 12 months.
