Reasons to attend the Electronics Design Show conference
1 min read
When engineers go to their managers and ask for authorisation to attend a conference, the first question is almost always going to be 'why?'. If you're thinking about attending the Electronics Design Show conference – and you certainly should be – here's some reasons you can offer.
Conferences are all about finding out about new techniques, technologies and methodologies. Many engineers will be used to attending events organised by suppliers, in which a piece of software is explained or you're told how to use a particular device. But conferences spread the net wider; beyond new techniques, attendees are exposed to ideas from industry leaders, such as best practice.
At this year's event – which takes place in Coventry on 22 and 23 October – you'll hear leading engineers and executives from companies and organisations such as Rolls-Royce, General Dynamics, Jaguar LandRover, CERN and MIRA discussing topics ranging from the power electronics requirements of next generation aircraft and innovations in automotive electronics to what's happening in the world of driverless cars. There will also be an update on Raspberry Pi, plus an insight into how analogue electronics is being used to improve sound quality in audio systems and how that technology can be applied in industry.
And, with the Internet of Things moving towards the top of everyone's agendas, there will be presentations addressing security, privacy, trust and authentication: how to be sure the 'thing' to which your 'thing' is talking is the 'thing' you think it is; and how to ensure such systems remains secure.
But conferences are about more than just learning; they are also about networking. People with similar design challenges will be able to meet and discuss their different approaches.
In between the conference sessions of most interest, there'll be the opportunity to meet with a range of suppliers to the industry and to attend practical workshops on the show floor.
With its high level conference, free practical workshops and exhibition, visiting this year's Electronics Design Show will be a worthwhile use of your time and I look forward to seeing you there.
