According to research from IHS Markit | Technology, 31 5G commercial service launches were made globally by the end of the second quarter of 2019.
That represents a real ‘burst’ in activity and the deployment of 5G has become increasingly widespread, with projects across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
5G has reached a level of deployment in just 10 months that it took 4G to achieve in 3 years.
So why the fast uptake? The maturity and experience of today’s wireless operators could be one reason, another could be the fact that 5G smartphones are much more readily available, while enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and fixed wireless access (FWA) are helping to drive demand for 5G.
Whatever is driving the market, analysts now expect 5G deployments to grow exponentially, with possibly hundreds of deployments per quarter within 3-4 years.
