Maybe so, but it’s a variation on a similar theme from the 1980s, when automation was seen to be a threat to a number of industries. Then, the story went along the lines of there only being the need for three things in a factory: automated machinery; a man; and a dog.
The purpose of the man was to feed the dog and the purpose of the dog was to keep the man away from the machinery.
