Logie Baird initially adopted a mechanical scanning approach to creating the images for transmission. The device featured a rotating disk with glass elements. Contemporary reports talk of bits of glass flying across the room – which could only hold six people at a time – as well as someone’s beard getting an unscheduled trimming.
While tablets and the like are becoming the preferred means of watching TV, interest in the ‘box’ remains high. The recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas featured TVs of all sizes, shapes and technologies.
