1200 UK jobs to go at Fujitsu
Japanese computer manufacturer Fujitsu Services has proposed a reduction of around 1200 jobs in the UK. The cuts will affect the IT services unit and the company cited lower than expected revenues as the cause.

The company said that action was necessary to ensure that the company remains competitive during the current economic downturn and is in a solid position for future growth once the upturn arrives.
Fujitsu currently employs 12,500 people in the UK and has an annual revenue of £2billion. The decision to lose almost 10% of its staff follows the recent appointment of Roger Gilbert as chief executive of the UK business.
Fujitsu has employed a number of measures to minimise job losses during the recession, such as pay freezes, a reduction in the number of contractors and a retraining programme. All affected employees will be offered guidance and support and a process of consultation with elected employee representatives is being established.
The proposed reductions are expected to be complete by the end of 2009.
