The 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, which ended yesterday, featured over 2700 exhibiting companies, showcasing an estimated 20,000 new products. Owned and produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the four day event set several new records, including 30,000 international attendees and 22 top ceos participating in keynotes.
"There was a sense of recovery in the air this year," said Jason Oxman, senior vice president of industry affairs at the CEA. "From our perspective, the level of innovation and enthusiasm on display was unprecedented in the show's history. Companies are feeling more optimistic about the prospective of economic recovery. There's just an incredible level of innovation happening in our industry and the entire technology segment wanted to be here to experience that."
An estimated 140,000 people attended the event, an increase of approximately 14,000 visitors from 2010. Bringing together ceos from companies such as Microsoft, Verizon, Audi, Samsung and Xerox, CES showcased the latest advances in wireless 4G LTE, connected tv technologies, smart appliances and electric vehicles. But while innovations in 3d technology have dominated the event in recent years, 2011 was certainly the year of the tablet, with 80 new modules being unveiled by companies such as Motorola, Samsung, Sony and BlackBerry.
