Ambient light sensor delivers near human eye spectral response

Intersil has introduced an automotive qualified ambient light sensor, which it claims is capable of measuring incident light levels down to 0.01lux with near human eye spectral response.

The ISL76671 is touted as the industry's first low light ambient light sensor that operates within the automotive temperature range of -40 to 105dc. It features internal temperature compensation, 30ms response time and infrared rejection. The AEC-Q100 qualified sensor operates from a 1.8 to 3.0V supply with a low operating current of less than 4uA. According to Intersil, its voltage output can be connected directly to an a/d converter without buffering. Available in a 2.1 x 2.1mm package, the ISL76671 is designed to provide a high standard of light detection behind darkened glass and plastic bezels in a range of light based control applications.
