Analogue set to outpace total IC market
Analogue unit shipments are expected to outpace total IC sales between now and 2018.
IC Insights' latest forecast shows that in 2013, analogue IC shipments grew 15% to become the first IC product category to ship more than 100billion units in a calendar year. And this is a trend that looks set to continue.
The market research firm says analogue IC sales will grow at an average rate of 8.9% between now and 2018, faster than the 7.2% forecast for the total IC market
In 1980, analogue ICs represented 32% of total IC shipments, but that increased to nearly 40% in 1990, 46% in 2000, 49% in 2010, and is forecast to grow to 57% of total IC shipments in 2018.
The growth has been attributed to an increase in demand for medical electronics, LED lighting systems and green energy management systems for homes and commercial buildings.
