The government-backed scheme provides independent validation of UK firms’ defences against common cyber-attacks. It also demonstrates a commitment to cyber-security.
According to Anglia CEO Steve Rawlins (pictured), “We are delighted, though not surprised, that Anglia has secured the Cyber Essentials certification. Given the confidential nature of our contracts, cyber-security is something we have always taken incredibly seriously at Anglia.
“The certification provides valuable reassurance for all of our customers that data about their business and relationship with us is held securely. Cyber Essentials is a requirement for some customers working on government contracts. We hope this achievement will encourage more customers to collaborate with us on a wider range of projects.”
Cyber Essentials was launched by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre and is designed to help businesses of any type or size protect themselves from the most common types of cyber-attack, such as ransomware, password guessing and network attacks.
The scheme’s requirements are divided into five core themes: firewalls; secure configuration; user access control; malware protection and security update management.
The assessment covers the entirety of a business’s IT infrastructure, including devices that are used for working remotely. Businesses that meet the criteria are added to a listed directory of certified organisations.
It is planned that the requirements for businesses will evolve and the challenges around cyber-security continue to evolve.
