ARM has made an encouraging start to 2014, according to a statement accompanying its first quarter 2014 financial report. The company has seen revenues grow by 10% on a year on year sterling basis, with processor licensing revenues increasing by 38%.
Simon Segars, CEO, pictured, said: "Q1 was a good start to the year for ARM, with more customers choosing to license ARM technology for their future products, which helped drive ARM's revenues.
"Licences are a precursor to future royalty revenues. Our customers are signing licences with a view to designing ARM technology into an increasingly wide range of markets – from servers and supercomputers to embedded sensors and enterprise networking applications and thereby underpinning ARM's future royalty opportunity."
Amongst the key figures highlighted by the company were the signing of 26 processor licenses, including five for the 64bit ARMv8 architecture, taking the number of v8 licensees to 43. There were also 11 licenses signed for Cortex-M class processors. There were 2.9billion ARM based chips shipped in the quarter, 11% more than the same period in 2013.
According to the financial statement, revenue for the quarter was £186.7million, with a profit before tax of £97.1m.
