Arqiva to launch second IET apprentice programme

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced that it will work with communications infrastructure and media services group Arqiva on a new apprentice programme, following the success of the original scheme in 2008.
The new scheme will begin in January 2012 and is designed to bring in young people and develop their skills to fulfil future Arqiva business requirements, in the face of rapidly changing technology and the ongoing digital switchover. All apprentices in the new scheme will initially work towards the EngTech (Engineering Technician) professional registration category, provided by the IET, potentially moving onto IEng (Incorporated Engineer) in the future.
Further developing the IET's presence in the broadcasting and communications industry, the programme will allow school leavers of 18 years and above to gain on the job experience as well as the necessary professional qualifications to embark on a successful career in engineering.
"With the scheme recognised and external development approved by the IET, it will provide a springboard for young people to launch a professional career in engineering with Arqiva," says John Druce, Learning and Development Manager, Arqiva. "The previous apprentice programme we ran with the IET was a great success with the applicants learning a lot from both the process and their mentors, while bringing a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the company."
The original programme brought 22 apprentices into Arqiva, with 19 still at the company three years later.
