Board tracking technology available free of charge in trial service
Murata and rfid partner Beta Layout have launched a prototype trial service for Magicstrap based pcb rfid devices.
In the trial, Beta Layout will embed Murata's uhf rfid Magicstrap technology free of charge for a regular prototype order of up to 50 pcbs. This is said to allow electronics equipment manufacturers to explore how pcb identification can be implemented.
According to the partners, the use of uhf rfid brings advantages compared to optical identification methods. The batteryless approach works when the device is unpowered and does not need line of sight.
Boards can be identified when fully assembled and when packaged in shipping cartons. Because boards can be tracked through the supply chain, counterfeiting can be made more difficult.
The rfid prototyping service is available until October 2013.
