BOMs affected by closure of tantalum mines

Buyers for electronic manufacturers are being warned that they could have difficulty sourcing tantalum, a transition metal used in mobile phones, computers, dvd players and games consoles.

According to a report from Merchant Research & Consulting, global tantalum supply has been cut by around 40% due to the recent closure of a number of mines. Tantalum, as a metal powder, is primarily used in the production of capacitors and some high powered resistors.
