Edinburgh based Wolfson Microelectronics has announced the release of its new hd audio product line for pcs and laptops at CES, Las Vegas. According to Wolfson, the technology will 'revolutionise' a sector of the consumer electronics market where audio quality has often been overlooked.
Peter Frith, Wolfson's chief technology officer said that pc audio quality has been overlooked but the new hd audio product line will deliver professional audio quality that matches the quality of the video and imaging.
Wolfson claims the WM8850 and WM8860 devices deliver the best audio experience available in the pc market with an excellent signal to noise ratio and total harmonic distortion performance.
"PCs and laptops are fast becoming the centre of converged home entertainment systems, where multimedia content, especially music and video, is consumed and created in increasing amounts and in new ways," Frith added. "With our new hd audio products, combined with our 25 years experience operating in the high performance audio markets, Wolfson is helping enable the ultimate audio experience in the next generation of products."
Both devices are compatible with the industry standard High Definition Audio interface and compliant with Windows Hardware Quality Labs. The WM8850 features three high performance stereo digital to analogue converters to enable six channels of hd audio, while the WM8860 incorporates two stereo DACs to enable four channels of high definition audio.
