Character oled viewable from any angle

A new character monochrome oled represents a step function leap in performance when compared with traditional character display technologies, according to optoelectronics specialist, GTK.
The device has what is termed as a 'free viewing angle' and can be viewed from any angle. It has a thickness of 2.3mm and has a high contrast ration of 10,000:1. The oled is designed for harsh environments as it operates in temperatures ranging from 40 to 800C. It does not require a backlight for operation, minimising power consumption and is available in two sizes – with yellow and white colours as standard.
Clive Dickinson, GTK's business manager for optoelectronic products, said: "For OEM's designing new products requiring a simple character display, this technology is ideal. It's high on performance, low on power consumption and requires less real estate than traditional technologies. The premium paid for this technology is more than traditional lcd technologies but this is more than offset by the advantages it offers in terms of space saving and performance."
