In a bid to strengthen its position in the mobile and automotive location markets, Cambridge Silicon Radio has launched its next generation SiRFstarV architecture, the SiRFprimall SoC auto infotainment platform and the SiRFusion end to end location platform.
According to the silicon and software specialist, the platforms take location to 'the next level', with SiRFstarV and SiRFusion enabling new products that 'significantly' improve the user experience for a range of location applications. SiRFprimall is designed to improve auto navigation.
According to CSR, the SiRFstarV architecture adopts a new approach to location and navigation. Instead of relying solely on GPS to determine position, it gathers real time information from GPS, Galileo, Glonass and Compass satellites; radio systems, such as cellular and Wi-Fi; and multiple MEMS sensors like accelerometers, gyros and compasses. The information is then combined with ephemeris data, mapping, cellular base station and Wi-Fi access point database information and cloud based aiding information. By fusing all the data, CSR says it provides precise location and navigation indoors and outdoors.
SiRFusion is a self learning, end to end location platform that 'fuses' multiple radio signals and sensor inputs to provide location for indoor and outdoor navigation applications. CSR says that mobile products using SiRFstarV and SiRFusion will be able to make a seamless transition between outdoor and indoor navigation while continuing to use a range of location enabled services and applications. The platform is designed to constantly update its database automatically using crowdsourcing techniques.
SiRFprimall integrates a multi GNSS location engine supporting GPS, Galileo, Glonass and Compass satellites to improve the navigation system performance in obstructed environments. By utilising SiRFDRive dead reckoning software, it is designed to deliver precise data in tunnels or car parks. The platform features 3d graphics and video accelerators and an ARM Cortex-A9 application processor. Its graphics are designed to make concepts like augmented reality practical for the mainstream automotive market.
Kanwar Chadha, chief marketing officer for CSR, said: "With our SiRFstarV architecture and SiRFusion platform, we are breaking the barrier to providing a seamless location and navigation experience to consumers, both indoors and outdoors. Our SiRFprimall auto infotainment platform is designed to enable a premium automotive navigation, entertainment and augmented reality experience that is affordable for everyone."
