Cloud market to generate $9.4billion in new server sales

Spending on private and public clouds will drive worldwide server sales over the next four years to the tune of $9.4billion, according to new research from International Data Corporation (IDC).
The number of servers shipped for deployment in public clouds is expected to reach more than 1.2million in 2015, representing a compound annual growth rate (cagr) of 21.1%. The market research firm says 570,000 servers will be sold for private cloud implementations, representing a cagr of more than 22%.
"These evolutionary changes in IT deployment and business attitudes are having a profound impact on traditional IT environments," said Katie Broderick, senior research analyst at IDC. "Cloud computing can dramatically simplify administrating and managing many companies' datacenters and position IT as a service organisation for the rest of the company.
"Off loading some of the more mundane tasks to the cloud and freeing up manpower to focus on adding value to the business is critical to driving cloud adoption. But, upfront costs are real, and choosing the right vendor to manage or deploy an environment is equally important."
