Wireless technology specialist CSR has announced the Quatro 5300 series of programmable imaging processors, which it claims to be the most highly integrated in the industry.
Sampling now and targeted for use in next generation scanners and printers, the series is said to slash overall system cost and energy use, as well as speed time to market.
"The Quatro 5300 series sets a new industry benchmark for the level of integrated functionality in a product of this kind," said CSR's Neil Epstein. "With its compelling cost savings and other advantages, we are confident it can provide an attractive solution for other OEMs seeking to build market share and volume in the price sensitive BRIC markets and elsewhere."
Newly integrated features include ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller cores for direct control of printer and scanner motors, and the ARM Mali-400 MP gpu, lcd controller and touch screen controller interface.
In addition, Silicon Labs' V.34 hardware fax modem has been integrated to provide a globally programmable telephone line interface. An integrated dram interface which supports ddr2 and ddr3 memory and a d/a converter designed to provide cost effective sensor control are also included.
