Design exhibition celebrates iconic Cambridge innovations

The Design Council backed Design Icons: Cambridge Innovation Festival runs from 8 to 23 February 2012 and will feature a range of groundbreaking products designed in Cambridgeshire, from consumer electronics to health and scientific devices. Products include the Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer and Meridian Audio M80 hifi, as well as new energy devices, such as a new concept that uses moss to produce energy through photosynthesis. The interactive Design Icons exhibition has been organised by Creative Front Cambridgeshire, a creative industries network led by Anglia Ruskin University. Clare Denham of Creative Front, said: "This exhibition demonstrates that whatever market you are in and wherever you plan to sell your products, Cambridge design has the ideas, experience and know how to help. It showcases the vibrant design community around the city and the depth of skills and innovation across the product lifecycle that companies can call upon. This is the first design festival in Cambridge and we're confident that it will focus the spotlight on existing iconic products while building momentum to develop this into an annual event." Iconic products on show include the Sinclair Sovereign and Executive Calculators, iCAP Spectrometer, Sepura Tetra Police Radio, Meridan Audio M80, Lecson amplifier, Freudenberg Vileda Magic Mop II, Sinclair C5, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Torch (the world's first energy saving white led torch) and the University of Cambridge designed Moss Table. All of the products have been designed in Cambridgeshire over the last 40 years. The three week exhibition will be staged at the Ruskin Gallery on Anglia Ruskin's Cambridge campus between 8-23 February 2012.
