Future Technology Devices International (FTDI) has expanded its Vinco offering with the addition of the VNCLO-START1 kit.
The development environment is based on the company's Vinculum-II dual channel usb host/device controller and is designed for the creation of next generation embedded systems. It is made up of a Vinco motherboard and a VNC2 debug/programming module. An optional accessory pack is available in the form of the VNCLO-SHLD-1A prototyping board. This is accompanied by interconnect, optoelectronic and passive components.
A set of free libraries is available that includes usb host/device drivers and a software development chain for generating firmware. The Vinco motherboard integrates an eight channel, 10bit a/d converter, which is designed to simplify connection to sensors, actuators and other analogue devices. It supports 38 general purpose input/output connections.
The Vinculum-II controller chip integrates a 16/32bit mcu core, 16kB of RAM and 256kB of Flash Memory, as well as a range of interfaces (UART, SPI, GPIO, FIFO and PWM).
