Development kit helps engineers to keep in touch

Atmel has released the QTouch Suite, a development suite that allows applications featuring capacitive touch buttons, sliders and wheels to be developed for AVR's 8 and 32bit microcontrollers.
Bundled in the suite is the QT600 development kit, QTouch Studio, AVR Studio and QTouch Library. The QT600 development kit allows designers to evaluate and design touch based solutions. Its scalable design also allows the designer to use touch sensor boards with various microcontroller boards or to connect QT600 sensor boards directly to their application.
Product marketing manager Arild Roland said: "Many engineers are familiar with mechanical buttons, but are also interested in touch technology. But they don't have the experience. We want to give them a complete tool suite which allows them to explore how the technology works, then move their design into production."
In all, the suite includes seven boards: three mcu boards; three sensor boards; and an interface board. Users can mix and match to develop appropriate systems. When using the ATXmega324PA, users can explore systems with up to 64 touch channels.
