DSPs bring price/performance boost
Texas Instruments is sampling two new digital signal processors that are said to more than double the price/performance of existing devices.
Although aimed at telecom enterprise gateway and IP-PBX products, the TMS320C6424 and C6421 are expected to find application in printers, scanners, copiers and wireless applications.
Based on the TMS320C64x+ core, the dsps offer up to 4800MMACs at 600MHz. Data throughput is up to 4.8Gbyte/s and the dsps come with a 333MHz DDR2 memory interface.
Both devices are available in 400, 500 and 600MHz speed grades and TI claims the 400MHz variant of the C6421 is the lowest cost C64x dsp yet announced. Packaging options are 16 x16 and 23 x 23mm bgas.
