Electronics training unit hits 100 milestone

Electronics Yorkshire has made its 100th educational visit to promote electronics to young schoolchildren when its mobile training unit visited Archbishop Holgate's School in York.
The purpose built vehicle has visited schools and educational establishments for four years across the Yorkshire and Humber regions. Part of Electronics Yorkshire's Educational Outreach programme, the initiative is designed to encourage electronics within the science and technology curriculum at an early age. So far, more than 1000 pupils have received practical skills experience.
According to the organisation, the scheme has received feedback suggesting over 60% would now consider a career in electronics or electrical engineering as a result of the experience.
Peter Burnley, training and technology centre manager at Electronics Yorkshire commented: "We know it is vital to develop awareness in engineering at an early age and are delighted to have introduced so many young people to the exciting world of electronics. The visits have proved to be very popular with many schools and educational establishments across the region booking the mobile training unit on more than one occasion."
