European displays project looks to develop lcds on plastic film
Plastic Logic is taking part in a new Europe wide research project which aims to build on the continent's expertise in organic thin film transistor (otft) backplane and lcd technology.
The Liquid Crystals for Robust Applications (LiCRA) project will also involve Merck, the University of Stuttgart's Institute for Large Area Microelectronics, Etkes and Sons, micro resist technology and LOFO High Tech Film.
The 18 month project, which has received €1.5million from German federal ministry of science and education and from national funding agencies, will focus on several key areas of innovation required to enable the manufacturing of lcds on plastic film. Plastic Logic will further develop its active matrix otft backplane technology to make it suitable for use in an lcd.
Indro Mukerjee, Plastic Logic's ceo, said: "Plastic Logic's strategy has been to extend the use of its proven otft backplane to other types of display media. We have developed a number of industrial partnerships and are now pleased to join this important project."
