European semiconductor sales above average for September 2010

Sequential European sales of semiconductors grew above the worldwide average in September according to the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA).

The ESIA reports that chip sales in Europe reached $3.258billion in September, an increase of 3.9% from the $3.137bn reported in August. Year on year, this is an increase of 24.4%. Third quarter sales were up by 5% from the second quarter, totaling $9.774bn and global semiconductor sales were also strong across all regions in line with seasonal patterns. The September numbers show strong demand across most major product lines, with strong performances for discrete, optoelectronics and MOS microprocessors. Sales for memories showed moderate growth, mainly driven by flash memories. On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in September 2010 were $26.462bn, a sequential increase of 2.9%. Year on year, this results in an increase of 26.2%.
