First claimed for oscilloscope design
In what has been described as an industry first, Pico Technology has used reconfigurable a/d conversion technology to offer oscilloscope resolutions ranging from 8 to 16bit.
The architecture of the PicoScope 5000 Series allows multiple high resolution a/d converters to be applied in different series and parallel combinations to boost either the sampling rate or the resolution.
In series mode, converters are interleaved to provide 1Gsample/s at 8bit. In parallel mode, multiple converters are sampled in phase on each channel to increase the resolution and dynamic performance.
Resolution is increased to 14bit at 125Msample/s per channel. In two channel mode, resolution can be increased to 15bit, while in single channel mode, the converters are combined to support 16bit resolution at 62.5Msample/s.
