OLEDs have made it to manufacture, but will other applications of organic electronics follow? By Vanessa Knivett.
Interest in organic electronics is booming. There were signs that 2007 could be an exciting year for the technology long before PlasticLogic’s recent announcement that it had raised $100million for a commercial production line to be built in Dresden. Also in the race to manufacture plastic displays is Philips spin off PolymerVision, which has just signed up British manufacturer Innos to build 5in displays.
As the fabrication news suggests, organic electronics – in forms other than organic light emitting diodes (oleds) – is making a break from the lab.
