Freescale Q2-Q3 net sales up, but down year on year

Freescale Semiconductor has announced net sales of $893million for Q3 – an increase of 8.37% over the previous quarter. However, year on year, this compares badly with the company's previous net sales of $1.14billion.
Freescale attributed the loss to the company's decision in 2008 to exit its cellular handset business, as well as the economic downturn.
The reported loss from operations for the three months ended October 2009, inclusive of $91m of reorganisational costs, was $261m, compared to a loss of $345m in Q2 and $3.37billion in Q3 2008.
Rich Beyer (pictured), Freescale's chairman and ceo, said: "Third quarter results represent very strong execution on the part of the Freescale team. Revenues in our core businesses grew sequentially, operating profitability improved significantly and we ended the quarter with more than $1.3bin in cash."
Freescale's net sales figures for Q3 2009 are as follows:
• Microcontroller net sales were $291m in Q3 2009, compared to $238m in Q2 and $408m in Q3 2008
