Fuel gauge ic boosts battery life by 50%
The industry's smallest and most accurate Li-Ion battery fuel gauge ic has been touted by Texas Instruments.
The bq27421 plug and play module is designed to boost battery life by up to 50% in portable medical devices such as wearable health monitors, as well as industrial devices and consumer electronics.
Steve Lambouses, TI's vice president of battery management, said: "TI's fuel gauges give consumers the battery information they can depend on, maximising the level of convenience with their battery powered devices and allowing them to get more run time out of their batteries."
Available in a 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.5mm WCSP package, the bq27421 is said to require minimal user configuration and system microcontroller firmware development compared to competing devices.
In addition, it leverages TI's Impedance track technology to provide battery capacity measurement with 99% accuracy.
