Fujitsu expands line up of 32bit general purpose mcus

Fujitsu Semiconductor has announced two new families of 32bit general purpose microcontrollers based on the ARM Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M0+ cores.
Anticipated for a summer 2013 launch, the ARM Cortex-M4 based FM4 family of risc mcus will feature sdram and sd card interface functions as well as an expanded package line up.
The series will also feature a range of timers and serial communication functions – all supplied with flash. Inverter control functions, various communication functions, plus CAN, usb 2.0 and Ethernet support, will be integrated as standard.
Employing a low power Cortex-M0+ core and featuring the same peripheral functions of the FM3 family, Fujitsu claims the FM0+ devices offer a 10% increase in processing performance compared to the previous Cortex-M0 modules, reducing power consumption by a third.
The devices have a target operating current of 70µA/MHz and a standby current of 0.7µA, making them suitable for instrumentation applications that require low power consumption, such as battery operated devices and electronic metres.
Enhancements have also been made to Fujitsu's existing FM3 product line. It is now intending to offer a total of 570 products in the range by 2013, compared to the 463 it had initially planned.
