Funding boost for UK fingerprint technology firm
UK firm Intelligent Fingerprinting has been awarded a share of a £39million healthcare grant from the Technology Strategy Board to aid the development of its handheld fingerprint testing device and prove its feasibility for use in accident and emergency situations.
The Norwich based electronics firm, a spin out from the University of East Anglia, will use the £425,000 grant to research the feasibility of using its device for fast, non invasive drug screening of hospital A&E patients on admission.
An additional £290,000 award has been given to fund a study in conjunction with coroners to trial non invasive drug testing of the deceased.
"Our funding success confirms the potential importance of developing a non invasive and rapid drug screening technique which can be used at the point of care," said Dr Paul Yates, business development manager for Intelligent Fingerprinting.
"Securing Biomedical Catalyst funding for these two important projects is a significant step towards further development of our drug screening technology and supports the company's recent growth driven by backing from international investors."
