The world's first 'glasses free' 3d monitor is being launched in the UK by a manufacturer of professional lcd monitors for broadcast, studio and tv production.
Marshall Electronics' Orchid OR-70-3D autostereoscopic 7in camera top monitor was unveiled at IBC 2011 in Amsterdam. The monitor requires neither passive or active 3d glasses and can be used as a camera viewfinder or portable 3d production display.
"Marshall continues to support the growth and expansion of global 3d production," said Nathan Mordukhay, Marshall's vice president of Sales & Marketing. "The OR-70-3D is now the most versatile and technologically advanced 3d monitoring solution available to filmmakers and content producers."
According to Marshall, its parallax barrier and lenticular hybrid technology enables the OR-70-3D to provide superior 3d images with 1600 x 600 screen resolution. The 7in 3d monitor is designed to provide dual real time Waveform and Vectorscope, along with various 3d analysis features such as Check Box, Difference, Blending and Compare. Integrated mux and independent loop through eliminates the requirement of an additional external converter. Delay compensated horizontal mirror flip supports both channels respectively, while the unit also supports large battery adapters and 1/4in - 20 mounting for mobility and flexibility.
The Compare Box is a new feature for 3d calibration that compares a specific region of both channels with easy to read graphs for Y, R, G, B with numeric display. Check Box provides a quilted layout of both left and right channels for depth check and channel difference. The size of the box can be adjusted using the front panel rotary encoder. The Emboss (Alpha-Channel View) is a full frame Embossed or Luminance Difference View which shows the difference between left eye and right eye. The new horizontal H marker provides a ruler for 3d depth control - the position and space between lines can be adjusted using the front panel rotary encoder.
The OR-70-3D will be available in UK at the end of October.
