Highly integrated optical sensors offer simplified design
Maxim has announced a series of digital optical sensors which integrate up to seven individual sensors into one package.
The company says the high level of integration reduces system cost, eliminates several external components, and greatly simplifies design.
The MAX44004, 05, 06 and 08 integrate RGB colour sensors as well as ambient visible light (ALS), ambient infrared (IR), proximity and temperature sensors. They are designed to provide robust and repeatable measurements, with the 05, 06 and 08 devices each consuming an industry low 20µA.
"There is a progression of trends toward a world where everything is connected, where sensors become pervasive and technology virtually disappears," commented Chae Lee, senior vp of Maxim's mobility group. "Our goal is for these devices to be a natural extension of ourselves."
Maxim says the sensors are targeted at portable consumer devices, displays, digital light management, security systems, and medical applications.
