The deal would encompass IBM's System x line, which includes Intel and AMD based tower, rack and blade servers. IBM is said to be seeking between $5billion and $6bn for the x86 server business.
Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo's chairman and ceo, confirmed in a statement that the company was in preliminary talks with a third party over a potential acquisition, but stressed that it had not entered into any definitive agreement.
