ICT to cut Excess
An EU project, called Excess, will be conducted at the Chalmers University of Technology and will target the energy efficiency of ICT.
"Reducing the energy consumption of embedded systems means that we can increase their use in new sectors of the economy, for example energy-smart buildings, where the energy saving potential is around 30 percent," said Philippas Tsigas, project coordinator for Excess and Professor of Computer Science at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden
Objectives of the project are firstly to identify areas where energy is being wasted and then come up with a continuous process to reduce this waste.
"To reach the next level of energy efficiency, interaction of hardware and software needs to be optimised through an iterative software/hardware co-design process, like the one we will develop in Excess," said Tsigas.
