IDT announces first PCI Express Gen2 to RapidIO Gen2 conversion bridge
The 'industry's first' PCI Express Gen2 to Serial RapidIO Gen2 protocol conversion bridge has been introduced by Integrated Device Technology.
The Tsi721 is designed to extend scalable RapidIO enabled peer to peer multiprocessor clusters to the x86 processor environment. It enables the use of Intel processors and, according to IDT, translates the PCIe protocol to RapidIO and vice versa, allowing existing RapidIO systems in the wireless, defence, imaging and industrial markets to maintain their high performance and low latency.
The device offers eight direct memory access and four messaging engines/channels, each capable of transferring large amounts of data and operating at line speeds of 16Gb/s. This is said to enable the allocation of multiple engines per core or context in a multi core, multi threaded system and simplify system level software development.
