IDT launches first single chip solution for tft lcd panels

1 min read

Integrated Device Technology has announced what it claims to be the industry's first single chip power management solution for thin film transistor (tft) lcd panels. Typical panels are those used in netbooks, tablet pcs and notebooks.

The device integrates a low voltage differential signalling (lvds) timing controller with integrated power management and a four channel LED driver for LED backlighting. IDT says that by integrating all of these functions onto a single chip, the IDT VDAP1000 saves power and board space. It has been designed to reduce electromagnetic interference (emi) by enabling spread spectrum technology, improving signal integrity and system performance. Ji Park, vice president and general manager of the IDT Video and Display Operation, said: "This type of device will revolutionise tablet, netbook and notebook panels going forward. And, IDT is the only company offering this type of system integration, which includes complete power management, in a single chip solution for these smaller tft lcd panels. This integration of the IDT PowerSmart technology provides designers with increased flexibility by freeing up valuable board space. By combining programmable smart power management functionality with the core silicon technologies that we are known for, such as timing controllers, IDT provides an integrated system level approach to reducing cost and board space." IDT is also introducing the VDAP1001, which includes all of the same features as the VDAP1000 but supports the industrial temperature range.
