Intel set to sink $250m into autonomous driving

In his keynote to the AutoMobility conference, Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich said that Intel Capital will invest more than $250million over the next two years in an effort to make fully autonomous driving a reality.

According to the company, the investments will drive the development of technologies that push the boundaries on next-generation connectivity, communication, context awareness, deep learning, security, safety and more.

Krzanich, pictured, said the automotive industry is on the cusp of a major transformation, adding this needed ‘unprecedented levels of computing, intelligence and connectivity’. With the variety of sensors, sonar, LIDAR and cameras that will come embedded in autonomous cars, he highlighted the need for the industry to be prepared for the data deluge with more than 4Tbyte of data coming from a single car each day.
