IO-Link transceiver is industry’s smallest, most integrated
Housed in a 2.5 x 2.5mm WLP package and designed to save more than 60% of pcb space, Maxim's new IO-Link transceiver is claimed to be the smallest and most integrated in the world.

The MAX14821 is optimised for point to point communication between industrial controllers and sensor modules and actuators. It supports all specified IO-Link data rates (4.8, 38.4 and 230.4kp/s) and also allows for 24V binary sensor/actuator applications, enabling manufacturers to use it for non IO-Link applications.
The transceiver incorporates a 12MHz SPI interface for control and monitoring and is configurable with numerous alarms and fault detection through its registers. Built in 5 and 3.3V linear regulators are said to provide more design flexibility than the competition's single regulator designs.
For more robust performance in abnormal industrial environments, the device features reverse-voltage protection on the 24V interface lines and short circuit and thermal protection. Under voltage monitoring is provided for all voltage pins, and a slew rate limiter has been implemented to reduce EMI emissions and reflections.
