Laser light source technology set to 'revolutionise' smartphones
Finnish technology firm EpiCrystals has introduced what it claims is the smallest and most efficient green light source for pico projectors, digital cameras and smartphones.
Based on the company's patented DeCIBEL platform, the green laser is a 1064nm GaAs based infrared laser diode that emits very narrow pulses. It utilises a two component design and is said to exhibit optical output power of more than 60mW, modulation speed of over 100MHz and 70% reduced speckle.
EpiCrystals believes the laser will revolutionise smartphones in the near future by enabling them to project photos, video presentations and movies on almost any surface with hd level quality and resolution. Mass production is planned for Q1 2012.
