Mairead Kelly named Young Design Engineer of the Year

Mairead Kelly, an engineer with Dialog Semiconductor's Edinburgh design team, has been named Young Design Engineer of the Year at the British Engineering Excellence Awards.
The Judges were looking for a demonstration of the knowledge which the young engineer has had to apply; the contribution made to a project; the degree of innovation applied and the nominee's personal qualities, including their motivation, dedication and ability to act as an ambassador for their discipline.
Kelly has been with Dialog since graduating from Edinburgh University in July 2008 with a First Class MEng in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. In that time, she has been directly involved with two key innovations: the development of a low drop out regulator for a Class D amplifier; and a technique, currently being patented, for noise suppression and echo cancellation in a low latency digital bypass circuit.
Over the last year, Kelly has been the joint leader of a discrete time Sigma-Delta a/d converter stereo.
Keen to support new engineers, Kelly is passionate about developing business/academic links and encouraging young talent into the business. She is graduate mentor for an Edinburgh University placement student and Mairead is actively helping to promote engineering as a profession to school leavers and undergraduates.
