Making motion moves
Looking to take advantage of a boom in the use of motion sensing in consumer products, Freescale has launched the MMA7660FC, a ±1.5g three axis accelerometer said to integrate a number of 'smart' features.
"The use of sophisticated accelerometer technology in portable electronic devices is evolving from a luxury to a requirement," said Demetre Kondylis, general manager of Freescale's sensor and actuator solutions division. "With the MMA7660FC, developers of portable electronics can now incorporate a single device for orientation, tap and shake detection while extending battery life for broader consumer adoption."
Key applications include portable consumer devices, along with shock detection and motion control in pcs and peripherals, activity monitoring in medical and sports applications, and orientation and freefall detection in gaming and toys.
