Multicore processor resolution

In a move that has the potential to solve many of the current challenges relating to multicore processors, Critical Blue has released Prism.
The embedded programming system allows engineers to take their existing sequential code and, without changing it, explore and analyse multicore opportunities.
"Prism is the result of more than three years close cooperation with our customers and partners to drive a practical solution to facilitate optimised, multicore ready applications for the most advanced processor architectures," said David Stewart, CriticalBlue's ceo. "It's a great way for software teams adopting multicore platforms to quickly ramp up on parallel programming and for experts to realise the full performance potential of these architectures."
Compatible with most leading multicore processors, Prism supports 'what if' analysis and the company claims this approach has already produced an order of magnitude development timescale improvement over alternative approaches.
Meanwhile, the company has announced a three prong strategy to streamline the adoption of multicore programming in the embedded industry. "We want to enable existing software development methodologies to become multicore aware – it's a critical element in our industry vision," Stewart noted. "Our goal has been to create a technology solution that implements this without creating new languages or methodologies."
